Visit to the Kanazawa Shotokan Ryu by Sensei Roger Carpenter 7th Dan S.K.I.F. September 2007. Held on the 20th, Carpenter Sensei made his long awaited return to the KSR, this time as a 7th Dan. His arrival was marked by the Senior Grades offering their congratulations on his recent grading by Kancho Kanazawa.
Carpenter Sensei then began with Kihon, his emphasis on good form and correct posture.
Then Sanbon Kumite from Kancho's Syllabus.
Kiso Kumite followed, then Kata.
All too soon the evening's course ended.
Congratulations once again Sensei on passing Nana Dan.

Course and Kyu Grading by Sensei Jim Palmer 6th Dan S.K.I.F. July 2007. Held on the 15th. The day began with Senior Instructors assisting with preparations for the afternoon's Kyu Grading examinations.
Palmer Sensei kept a firm hold of the reigns and assisted each grading group with preparations but mainly ensuringthe highest possible standards from his instructors.
The grading took place in the afternoon and the day ended with a Self Defence lesson given by Sensei Mike Russell 3rd Dan S.K.I.F. which everyone seemed to enjoy.
Congratulations go to all who passed their examination.

Japanese Blossom Festival, Lauriston Castle, Edinburgh May, 2007. Held on the 13th, Named the "Sunny Days and Blossom Festival" the heavens opened on what was an otherwise enjoyable festival of Japanese culture. To commemorate the 5th Anniversary of Edinburgh's twinning of Kyoto Prefecture and in the setting of the grounds and the Japanese Garden of the castle, the Kanazawa Shotokan Ryu gave several demonstrations of Traditional Karate, all in the presence of the Japanese Council General and Vice-Counsul.
A good if not a little damp time was had by all.

Visit to the Kanazawa Shotokan Ryu by Kancho Hirokazu Kanazawa 10th Dan S.K.I.F. April 2007. Held on the 19th. The long awaited return of Kanazawa Kancho to the Kanazawa Shotokan Ryu finally took place on the 19 April 2007.
Kanazawa Kancho was, as ever, in fine form despite a knee injury sustained whilst practicing for his demonstration at last year's World Championships.
The session started with Kancho taking the warm up, followed by Kihon. Sanbon Kumite and Kata rounded off an all too short a session.
A grading for the Kanazawa Shotokan Ryu followed.
Congratulations to everyone who passed especially our New Nidans and Shodan.
Also, a special congratulations go to Sensei Anne Palmer who was awarded Yondan by Kancho. (Appologies for the delay in posting it to this page....(Web Master))

Dan Grading Preparation Course March, 2007. Held on the 25th, After being "robbed" of sleep by the Start of British Summer Time, a small but dedicated band of Yudansha made the worthwhile Journey to the Bannockburn Centre for another Masterclass with Jim palmer Sensei.
Breaking down the elements of Kihon and polishing their individual performance saw the first Session go by far too quickly. Before the start of the Next Session, Palmer Sensei Presented Callum Russell with a new SKIF Black Belt from Tokyo. Kata followed and, due to the small number of participants, Palmer Sensei was able to spend a good deal of time going over the execution of each Kata individually.
The day ended with a session on Jiyu Kumite with a number of practice drills designed to bring the participants up to speed and eventually, free flowing Kumite. Trully, a day which others will be sorry that they missed!

Visit to the Kanazawa Shotokan Ryu by Sensei Roger Carpenter 6th Dan S.K.I.F. February & March 2007. Held on the 28th & 1st respectively. After a gap of 18 months Carpenter Sensei made his long awaited return to both the Edinburgh and Stirling Dojo.
Begining with Kihon, Carpenter Sensei cast his expert eye over all the participants, paying particular attention to those hoping to sit Dan gradings in the near future. Kumite followed with Sensei moving over some of the Kihon Ippon and Jiyu Ippon drills from Kanazawa Kancho's new Kumite book.
Kata followed with attention paid to good form and a brief but informative look at some of the Dan grade Kata. Unfortunetely, time beat us on both days but, as always, Carpenter Sensei left everyone wanting more.
"Haste Ye Back" Sensei.

Dan Grading Preparation Course February, 2007. Held on the 25th, A one day course was held by Sensei Jim Palmer 6th Dan S.K.I.F. aimed specifically at those hoping to attempt a Dan Grading in the near future.
The day began with Palmer Sensei going through Kihon, pointing out some of the finer detail. Kata followed with Palmer Sensei giving his attention to each participant on a one to one basis.
It rapidly became apparent to all that being a "Black Belt" isn't just about the colour of the Obi you wear!
